Chrysoprase is the most valuable stone in the chalcedony group. It is a form of quartz, and is usually found in an green apple color. The color may fade in sunlight, but often recovers in moist storage.

Chrysoprase has a hardness of 6 1/2 to 7 on the Mohs' scale, and a specific gravity of 2.58 to 2.64.
