Peridot and its properties

Physical properties of peridot:

Peridot (sometimes called olivine due to its color) is magnesium iron silicate. It has a vitreous, greasy luster and does not resist sulfuric acid. It ranges from yellow-green through olive green, or is brownish.

Peridot has a hardness of 6 1/2 to 7 on the Mohs' scale, and a specific gravity of 3.27 to 3.37.
