Ruby and its properties Physical properties of ruby: Ruby is a member of the corundum group. Its distinctive red color is due to the presence of chrome or, in specimens with a brownish cast, chrome and iron. It is primarily aluminum oxide. Ruby has a hardness of 9 on the Mohs' scale, and a specific gravity of 3.97 to 4.05. |
